Written by Gary Hayes MIXED WEEKEND FOR ORRELL It proved to be a mixed weekend of results for Orrell as, after two weekends of mainly washouts due to the wet weather, four of the five weekend fixtures were at least able to reach their conclusion. RAIN THWARTS ORRELL YET AGAIN Written by Gary Hayes A second consecutive wet weekend saw limited cricket played once again for Orrell’s senior teams. With both first and third team games washed out on the Saturday, it fell to Dave Whiteley’s second team to provide the entertainment away at Lytham. Rain unfortunately did affect this game also as the players were on and off for various showers throughout the day. Having won the toss and elected to bat, Whiteley’s team were indebted to an unbeaten century from Ben Mahoney as they made 201-7 declared in 42.4 overs. Mahoney did get…

Having won the toss, the visitors elected to bat first. Despite two wickets from under 15’s bowler, James Such, the visitors seemed well placed as they brought the half century up for the loss of only two wickets. The…

However, the team stuck to their task admirably and Josh Fallows struck the first blow to make the score 41-1 via…

Our round up starts on the coast though with the Firsts’ visiting Lytham in their final friendly of pre-season. Sam will be happy as his bowlers made short work of the hosts’ batting line up and his openers followed that up with a solid platform to victory within 36 of their allotted 45 overs. So it was a confident looking first team that returned…
